アデレード大学と合同シンポジウムを開催しました

医学系研究科は、5月27日（月）、オーストラリアのアデレード大学において、神経疾患と腫瘍に関する合同シンポジウムを開催し研究発表を行いました。これは、同大学医学部と最新の学術的交流を図り、今後の神経疾患と腫瘍に関する共同研究の進展を目的として開催されたものです。

シンポジウムは、ジャスティン・ベルビー教授及びアラスター・バート教授のシンポジウムへの期待を込めた歓迎の挨拶で幕を開けました。

本学からは、髙橋医学系研究科長ら10名が参加し、2グループに分かれて、幅広い分野について様々な角度から発表が行われました。当日は、研究者や大学院生が参加し、熱心に研究発表に耳を傾けており、積極的な質疑も行われました。シンポジウム終了後、ベルビー教授、ジュリー・オーウェン教授及びシンポジウムで発表を行った複数の教授陣と今後の共同研究の可能性について意見交換を行いました。

翌28日（火）には、2014年春に完成予定のアデレード大学最先端施設（南オーストラリアヘルスメディカル研究機構(SAHMRI)）の説明を受け、フォトニクス先進技術研究所（IPAS）、クリニカルスキルラボ、バイオスキルラボなどの研究施設を見学した後、今後の共同研究や研究施設利用に関する意見交換を活発に行いました。

翌々29日（水）には、大学院生や若手研究者の交換留学の推進など、相互の合意内容をベルビー教授と確認した後、ケント・アンダーソン教授と会談し、医学部としての方針を大学側に報告しました。

今回の訪問において、緊密な発展的協力関係の構築を得る機会となったことから、両大学間の教育研究に関する交流がより一層促進されることが期待されます。

 アデレード大学は、1874年に農場と銅山を所有するWalter Watson Hughesによって南オーストラリア州に創設された、オーストラリア全土で3番目に古い歴史を持つ大学です。これまでに5人のノーベル賞受賞者を輩出しており、その長い歴史と研究実績からオーストラリア版アイビー・リーグと呼ばれるGroup of Eightの一員となっています。3キャンパス2万5000人以上の学生と3500人以上の教職員が大学を支えています。
