7thInternational Joint Symposium between University of Freiburg, The University of Adelaide, and Nagoya University (FAN)

7th International Join Symposiumbetween University of Freiburg, Lund University, The University of Adelaide and Nagoya University (FLAN)

FLAN Academic symposium will be held on November 22, 23 2018
“FLAN” is an academic alliance with 4 Joint Degree Program (JDP) partner universities; University of Freiburg, (Germany), Lund University (Sweden), The University of Adelaide (Australia), and Nagoya University.    This is our first four-university symposium, including Lund University, Sweden.

At the begging of the symposium, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine, Nagoya University gave an opening remark. Top researchers in cancer, diabetes, heart health, and psychiatry fields from four universities gave a spear head research presentation.  From Nagoya University Prof. Shinya TOYOKUNI from pathology and biological responses department and Associate Professor Branko Aleksic from psychiatry department gave a presentation.  On the following day, the strategy meeting was held and we have discussed about management of our joint PhD program and its future plan.

Also additional special lectures were given by Prof. Christoph Peters, Freiburg University, and Associate Professor Itzel BUSTOS VILLALOBO from Nagoya University on November 20,21, and 29.

At the same time, we have invited PhD students from FLAN affiliated universities.  Through poster presentation, students interreacted each other. It was a great opportunity for both researchers and students to deepen our relationships.

The presentations and discussions were held in a very friendly atmosphere, and the three universities not only deepened their cooperative relationships in the research fields through their research, but also deepened mutual understanding in terms of the management of the joint education program. It was It is expected that education and research will be further developed among the universities in the future.

Through this experience, we hope that we will establish deeper relationships among four universities that serve to promote further research and educational collaboration between faculty members.
