Introduction to Nagoya University Medical Library
- A Guide to Users

- Please be quiet in the library.
- Please refrain from disturbing other users.
- Eating, drinking, smoking, and talking on cell phones and PHS are prohibited in the library.
- Do not occupy a seat by leaving personal belongings or library materials unattended.
- Do not leave valuables unattended in your seat.
- Library materials need to be put into place by users.
- You can pick up the books freely at the Medical Library (Except for some of the materials in the archives).
- Location of OPAC is "Med Library": Medical Library holds the book.
- Location of OPAC isn't "Med Library": The book belongs laboratories. To use it, ask staff members at the circulation desk.
- Books are classified according to Nippon Decimal Classification system.
- Reference books and general books are located in the same room.
- Journals are categorized according to the language (Japanese or Non-Japanese), divided into some parts by year of publication and arranged alphabetically.
- Undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff members of Nagoya University may use Student ID card or Staff ID card as a Library Card.
- Please make an application for a Library Card, in case your Student or Staff ID card does not contain a magnetic strip or the ID card isn’t issued to you. It takes about a week and it’s free of charge to make the card. Please ask at the Information Desk for further details.
- Some videos are not permitted to borrow.
- The loan period for the books can be renewed only once if no reservation has been made by another user.
- You can renew the books in two ways:by renewing online or in person at the circulation desk.
- You can’t borrow reference books.
- If you lose any books borrowed from the Library, please inform the circulation desk immediately
- Return materials that you borrowed to the circulation desk within the due date.
- Please put the book into the book drop in front of the entrance when library is closed.
- Materials that you borrowed from another library, please return them to that library.
- In case you fail to return the materials by the due date, borrowing rights are suspended.
- Reservation is available for the material on loan. Search it on the OPAC, press the "reserve" button and log in with THERS account. →[Guide Sheet: Reserve Books That are Currently on Loan]
- When the material returns, you will be informed via E-mail.
- The copy machine accepts coins and Co-op copy cards.
You can buy the card at the Co-op Store.*The card is no longer available for purchase.- Copyright law should be strictly observed by all library users when making copies of library materials. Making copies is permitted for study and research. Please don't copy personal belongings.
- This service is for undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff members of School of Medicine and Nagoya University Hospital.
- Materials which are not available in Tsurumai campus can be borrowed from other libraries in Nagoya University or other universities.
- Using ILL in Nagoya University Library costs money from April, 2013. For more detail, please see the document

- You can order via OPAC. Please click the "InterLibrary Copy Request" or "InterLibrary Loan Request" on the OPAC top and enter information of a book/journal/article. Please choose the "Medical" for "pick-up library". →[Guide Sheet: Interlibrary Loan/Copy Request]
- If you are unable to apply via OPAC, please fill out the form and submit it at the circulation desk. Application forms are also available at the circulation desk.

- You can use libraries of other universities with Nagoya University ID Card, but some libraries may require an appointment in advance or/and a letter of introduction to use their library resources. Please check the library guides of visiting library or contact Medical Library.
- Before visiting, please check OPAC or catalogs of each library.
- Please observe the rules of the libraries.
- Following members with the Nagoya University ID card are entitled to access the library during closed hours (4 am - 9 am, 8 pm - 12 pm)
- The 3rd - 6th year students in the School of Medicine
- All students, faculty and staff members of the Graduate School of Medicine and Nagoya University Hospital.
- You can't access to the library from 0 to 4 am.
- For frequent users during closed hours, an access card can be obtained upon application at the circulation desk.

- There are some PCs and a color printer combined with a copier. Undergraduate and graduate students of School of Medicine are given priority over others.
- Computers are provided for library users to have access to the library networked information like OPAC, Electronic Journals and databases.
- You can use them for the purpose of academic research, learning and teaching only.
- You can use videos and CD-ROMs provided in the Library. Please make an application to use this room. (Mon‐Fri:9 am‐5 pm)
- Two rooms are available for group discussions. They can be reserved by undergraduate and graduate students of School of Medicine for four hours per day, up to one week in advance. Please make reservation at the circulation desk.

- Only 6th-year students of the School of Medicine are allowed to use the designated seats on the 3rd floor of the library.
- A prior application is required to use these seats.
- Applications for designated places for the 2025 academic year are now being accepted. Sixth year Graduate School of Medicine students should apply via the library notifications on 'TACT'.
- Please follow the rules below when using these seats.
