The Second Opinion Clinic exists to enable specialist doctors at Nagoya University Hospital to offer opinions, advice, and judgments on diagnoses and treatments provided by other medical institutions to patients examined and treated at those institutions.
Its purpose is to provide information that will enable patients to choose the best course for their own treatment.
Because the purpose of a "second opinion" is to offer an opinion regarding a diagnosis or treatment, it is offered on the basis of patient interviews and documentation on treatment provided by the attending doctor (Patient Referral Document and other documentation). No further tests or treatment are offered.
In principle consultations are intended for patients themselves, but should family members possess a consent form they may also be eligible.
Should the patient be a minor, documentation proving their relationship with the family member (such as a Health Insurance Card) must be shown at the consultation.
