For New Patient

Nagoya University Hospital was approved as an “Advanced Treatment Hospital” by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in February 1995.

An Advanced Treatment Hospital is required to provide high-level, more specialist medical care, such as surgery that is difficult to perform at regular medical institutions and advanced, sophisticated care, and in principle examines patients referred from regular hospitals and clinics.

Patients who wish to be examined at Nagoya University Hospital are requested to start by consulting their regular physician or a general hospital, asking that medical institution to make an appointment for medical services via the Reception for Outpatient Referrals of Nagoya University Hospital depending on their symptoms, and bringing a letter of referral with them when they come for examination.

Patients may be examined without a letter of referral, but in that case they will be required to pay an additional fee of ¥4,320 as an extra cost not covered by health insurance. Bringing a letter of referral is therefore recommended.

Please be aware that depending on the situation of medical care at Nagoya University Hospital, patients may be referred back to the doctor who referred them or to another physician or general hospital. Your understanding is appreciated.
