Nagoya Disease Information Center (NADIC)

A facility that assists patients and their families to deal independently with health and disease

NADIC was established at Nagoya University Hospital with the aim of providing a venue where patients themselves can gather information about medical care, enabling them to understand their treatment and undergo it with peace of mind.

The facility has been run with the help of volunteers since its opening in May 2006, and today is used by around 700 patients a month.

It provides a range of information and learning resources, ranging from general medical books to pamphlets on different disorders, materials from patient organizations, and audiovisual equipment such as Internet access and DVDs.

Items to enable cancer patients to enjoy everyday life are on display, such as medical wigs and postoperative corrective appliances, and there is also a "Oshare Salon" ("Wig shop") where patients can pick up these items and try them on while they are still hospitalized.

NADIC also holds events such as seminars and lectures for patients, as well as handicraft workshops with activities such as folding origami, with the aim of becoming an "open space" where patients can drop by in small groups and exchange information among themselves.

Location : Central Consulation Building 2F Opening Hours : Weekdays 10:00-16:00 (excluding year-end and New Year's holidays and Golden Week) How to Use the Materials : Visitors can read books and pamphlets on medical care, use the Internet, and watch DVDs.
Please ask a NADIC volunteer if you have any questions about how to use the resources, and they will be able to help you. Note: Patient's families and local residents are also welcome to use NADIC.
