Working with community clinics and hospitals, we accept referrals for patients who require specialist evaluation or treatment.
Clinical Care by Three Specialist Teams
Our specialist teams provide advanced diagnosis, treatment, and research in the following three areas.
Genetic Skin and Keratinization Disorders
We evaluate keratinization disorders, ichthyosis, inherited blistering diseases, inflammatory keratinization disorders, and hereditary hair disorders. Genetic testing may be considered when clinically appropriate.
Connective Tissue and Autoimmune Skin Disease
We treat lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, systemic sclerosis, Sjögren syndrome, vasculitis, and related conditions, working with other specialists when systemic evaluation is needed.
Cutaneous Oncology
We diagnose and treat melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, extramammary Paget disease, angiosarcoma, and other skin cancers through surgery, systemic therapy, and multidisciplinary care.
General and Specialty Clinics

General Dermatologic Care
In addition to the three specialty areas, we evaluate general dermatologic conditions according to the referral information and the patient’s clinical needs.
Patients who may require advanced testing, specialist treatment, surgery, inpatient care, or multidisciplinary evaluation may be referred by their local medical institution.

How to Arrange a First Visit
Nagoya University Hospital is an advanced treatment hospital that works in partnership with community medical institutions. A referral letter and advance appointment are generally required.
Discuss referral to the Department of Dermatology at Nagoya University Hospital with your current physician or local medical institution.
Your medical institution sends an application and referral letter to the hospital. Initial appointments cannot be booked directly by individual patients.
Bring your referral letter and any test results, imaging, or pathology materials provided by the referring institution.
Please arrive at the first-visit reception desk on the first floor of the Outpatient Building approximately 30 minutes before your appointment.
What happens at the first visit?
We review the onset and course of your symptoms, previous treatments, medications, and family history, and perform a detailed skin examination. Blood tests, skin biopsy, imaging, or other evaluations may be recommended. Not all tests or treatments can necessarily be performed on the day of the first visit.

Can I visit without a referral letter?

Can I book an initial appointment myself?
No. Initial appointment requests must be submitted by your referring medical institution.
Can I select a specialty clinic myself?
We assign the appropriate physician and clinic after reviewing the referral information and your condition. Please discuss any preference with your referring physician.
Will tests or surgery be performed on the first day?
The first visit begins with medical assessment. Tests and treatment are planned according to your condition and may be scheduled for a later date.
Do you treat conditions outside the three specialty areas?
Yes. The three specialty areas are the main focus of our clinical services, and we also evaluate general dermatologic conditions according to the referral information and the patient’s needs. Please discuss the appropriateness of referral with your current physician.
Can I request diagnosis or treatment advice by email?
We cannot provide individual diagnosis or treatment advice by email. Please consult a medical institution regarding referral when clinical evaluation is needed.
