Scholar Exchange Program (SEP) between Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Medicine: OVERVIEW

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) is the oldest existing public university in the country. Nagoya University (NU) has a strong relationship with UNC and has been discussing the possibility of promoting collaborative research and establishing a joint degree program in the School of Medicine in the future. As part of these, the two universities have established the Scholar Exchange Program, a mutual exchange program that accepts graduate students and young researchers for a certain period of time.
In this program, students/researchers are accepted at NU or UNC and engage in research in the partner university's laboratories. Upon completion of the program, they are issued a certificate of completion by the partner university (though they do not receive a degree from the partner university). It is recommended that the research content be developed with future collaborative research in mind, and the results can be used as part of a doctoral dissertation at their own university.
Studying abroad will provide an opportunity to gain new knowledge that cannot be obtained at their home university alone, and joint education between the two universities will play an important role in nurturing global talent that will serve as an important stepping stone for future research activities worldwide. This program is also expected to not only nurture excellent young researchers but also deepen connections between faculty members, further strengthening collaboration and creating new international collaborative research.
