Department Information
Greeting from the Chief Doctor
As the incidence of the majority of pediatric diseases is low, the number of patients with them treated in a single facility is limited. The Department of Pediatric Surgery, Nagoya University has established a system to centralize patients with major pediatric diseases from related hospitals to the university hospital, and it is the national top-ranked facility in terms of the numbers of cases and surgeries. If you wish to experience a large number of cases, or participate in efficient pediatric surgery training, you are encouraged to join our pediatric surgery team.
Our requirement
There is no need to worry about the burden due to the extensive scope of pediatric surgery or difficulty in surgically treating small babies. It is actually hard to become well-versed in all areas of pediatric surgery, but this is a common tendency in all medical departments. Small babies require more careful treatment. On the other hand, their small body size occasionally makes procedures easier. Sufficient motivation is all you need.
Characteristics from the viewpoint of female doctors
Currently, there are 3 female doctors belonging to our department. We support female doctors to avoid career interruption due to child-birth or parenting.

Nagoya University Network
At Nagoya University, training has been provided over many years using an original method that reflects a new training system. We ensure the opportunity for trainees to “super-rotate” without belonging to specialized departments for 1 year. We help students to select training hospitals independently, provide clinical training for them, and support subsequent training in clinical settings through collaboration between Nagoya University Hospital and related hospitals.
See details of the Nagoya University Network here.
