Description Following the establishment of Nagoya University in May 1949 under the new education system, a School of Medicine University Hospital had a branch that lasted until 1996. The branch hospital's predecessor was the Nagoya Imperial University School of Medicine-affiliated Hospital's branch , which made use of the grounds and buildings of the Rikuta Building in Shin-Sakae-machi 3 cho-me, Naka Ward in Nagoya City (currently Sakae 4 cho-me, Naka Ward), donated by Mr. RIKUTA Sho. The photograph shows the School of Medicine Branch Hospital building during its Toshin-cho era (at the time of the Branch Hospital's opening): its grounds were 993㎡, and it had five stories of reinforced concrete (3781㎡ in total).From the first it had 11 departments (internal medicine, surgery, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology, pediatrics, otorhinolaryngology, dermatology and urology, neuropsychiatry, radiology, and dentistry), and carried out clinical training as well as general practice.
