Then, in September of the following year (1933), he made improvements to the Wolf-Schindler flexible gastroscope, and, commissioning mechanical engineer TAKEI Masaru, in February of Showa year 12 (1937) he completed the Kirihara flexible gastroscope. The pointed end of this gastroscope can be bent forward by manipulation of the hand. Using these gastroscopes, KIRIHARA made 408 intragastric observations of the human body, also planning to photograph the interior of the stomach; with the cooperation of mechanical engineer TAKEI, after much hard work they attempted to carry out the photography.
