In Meiji year 32 (1899), plague broke out in Kobe, spreading to Osaka, Hamamatsu and Yuasa; Nagoya, however, managed to avoid it. This book is a record of the precautions taken, compiled by the Aichi Prefectural Police Department Sanitation Division for future reference.
It includes official documents such as directives, prefectural ordinances and notices, from November, Meiji year 32's (1899) Directive No.1036, "Warning on travelers from Hiroshima and Kobe", to December, Meiji year 33's (1900) "Quarantine Inspector SHIMAMURA Misaki's dismissal", as well as charts of a Door-to-door census of infection inspection (rat poison deployment and execution of sanitation methods).
