Description NARASAKA Gen'ichiro (1854-1934) was born in Yamoto-cho in Miyagi Prefecture, the son of a feudal retainer from Sendai domain. It is said that an injury to his shoulder as a child meant his right arm was almost completely unusable, so he gave up clinical practice to focus on anatomy as a fundamental part of the study of medicine. Invited by GOTO Shinpei, in Meiji year 14 (1881) he took a position at Aichi Medical School as a teacher of anatomy, physiology and histology; he worked as a teacher for 40 years. In Heisei year 17 (2005), "Narasaka Gen'ichiro's Chugyo-Zufu (Illustrated Reference to Insects and Fish)", compiled by the Nagoya University Museum, was published by the Nagoya University School of Medicine Surgery I Department's alumni association "Doshin-kai".
