Description This scroll featuring a Latin proverb was given by Albrecht von RORETZ to students of the Public Medical School, on the occasion of the banquet marking the termination of his term as a teacher at the School on April 13, Meiji year 13 (1880).(The quotation is from Tale 103 of "Gesta Romanorum") TANO Toshisada, a teacher and translator at the Public Medical School at the time, made a Chinese translation of the quotation. The meaning of the Chinese version is "Whatever you do, consider wisely right to the end". The text below the quotation contains the names of the students enrolled in the School and the following words: "13 April, Meiji year 13: Left by Vice Prinicpal Albrecht von Roretz. Though it is a short proverb, for us as students the concept is profound. There will surely be many things that we must do in the future to follow this teaching."
