Description Belgian anatomist Andreas VESALIUS (1514-1564) pointed out errors in the long-influential theories of Greek medical scientist GALENOS (approx. 129-199); in 1543 he published the seven-volume "De humani corporis fabrica (On the fabric of the human body)", as well as a summary for students, "Epitome (Abridgment)", and is now known as "the father of modern anatomy". This copy of "Epitome" was annotated by Nicolaus FONTANUS, and the accurate and exquisite anatomical sketches it contains are filled with a sense of movement.
