Experience Report

Name: Mohammad Hussain Hamrah
School: Faculty of Medicine Arya University, Mazar-e Sharif, Afghanistan
Study Period: March 13- 31, 2017
Departments: Cardiology

My name is Mohammad Hussain Hamrah and I am a 5th year student of the Faculty of Medicine Arya University. I completed a three weeks clinical clerkship in the Department of Cardiology at Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine.

Dr.Morimoto had made a schedule for me which included participation with Japanese 6th- year students. There was a great opportunity for me to interact with Japanese medical students and their clinical training. I have problem with Japanese language. However, my colleagues translated for me into English. Dr.Morimoto was very kind and he took the time to explain anything I did not understand and answered all my questions.

I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time in the catheter laboratory. I observed several interventions for coronary angiographies and coronary angioplasty there.

Furthermore, I had the privilege to attend weekly Professor’s Rounds. Professor Murohara explained to me about the patients’ imaging and treatment approaches. These opportunities have deeply enhanced my learning indeed. It was highly informative to see many examples of both common and rare cardiac diseases in Japanese patients.

There was plenty of time to enjoy Japan outside of the hospital too. There is plenty to do in Nagoya, with lots of interesting things to explore such as shopping and sightseeing places to keep you occupied for 3 weeks. I liked Nagoya and it is easy to use subway system, which makes it feel wonderfully compact.

I would like to thank the Department of Cardiology and Office of International Affairs for providing me with the opportunity to undertake this clerkship.
