Departments: NUPACE/Healthcare Administration (Young Leaders’ Program)

It’s my honor to take part in such a wonderful program with students from different countries. I have spent almost a semester in Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine and I cherished the pleasant memory here.

In the beginning, I would like to thank my Professor Kasuya, Professor Hamajima, Professor Ymamoto, and other staffs in the International Affairs Office for their warm-hearted help and thoughtful attentions. Unlike other students in YLP (one-year master’s degree), I just an exchange student for several months here, so I faced to a lot of troubles such as course registration, visit to Hokenjo, examinations etc. They tried their best to help me figure out these personal problems. As we know Japanese always obey the rules, therefore, I couldn’t image how many processes would bother them. Although some visits could not add me, I can understand the rules and had a deep gratitude towards the staffs. According to the NUPACE, I should achieve more than 15 credits, and the spirit of Nagoya University seems like very strict.

During the courses, I have learned the Japanese laws and regulations related to healthcare, Japanese healthcare facilities and professionals, and preparedness for imminent natural disasters etc. The professors provided us insight into the whole picture of public health administration, explained the health and welfare system in Japan, and shared many details that couldn’t be found online. They also encouraged us to compare the situations in our motherlands at every lecture. In this way, we opened our minded and promoted our understanding of the policies and regulations. Bring us to think about how to formulate healthcare policies, guide policies, and what influences. That is interesting and meaningful, because Japan has a very well health and welfare system for citizens, especially for the old.

Even though China is not far away, this is my first time to Japan, but will not be my last time in Nagoya. Not only because I love the clean environment and polite strangers, but also, I shared one of my best episodes with many friends here. Thanks for my classmates and tutors, I can’t not speak Japanese at all, but they can speak English fluently. And there are many Chinese students in Nagoya, medical school as well. We had travelled together a lot, shared the delicate Japanese food and cooked delicious food from hometown.

Overall, the experience here at the medical school in Nagoya University is unforgettable, I recommend this is a nice exchange choice. Wish all the persons I met happiness and good luck!
