Clinical Exchange in Japan

I was really happy when I heard the new that I passed the competition and got the opportunity to study in Nagoya University for 5 weeks. To be honest, this is the second time I go abroad, let alone study abroad. So I was very excited undoubtedly. And as a whole, the 5 weeks’ clinical clerkship experience taught me a lot on medical knowledge, hospital environment, medical system and culture of Japan. And I really enjoy my dormitory in Nagoya University.

I spent 4 weeks studying in urology department and plastic and reconstructive surgery department. The teachers in these departments made a proper arrangement for me. I focused on observing operations. The teachers introduced the process of some of operations to me patiently. And we made several discussion about why they used this kind of operation, what should pay attention to after the surgery, etc. Doctors and I had lunch together, so I could chat with them about medical system, health insurance, life in Japan.

In the last week, I studied in Community Healthcare and Geriatrics. Teachers invited me to make the rounds of the ward. In addition, they showed me how to make a digital rectal examination and allowed me to do it by myself. They also made a presentation for me, introducing geriatrics in Japan, and took me to go around in their office and laboratory.

Before my clerkship in Nagoya University, I wrote a work to do list. Finally I fulfilled almost every aim I made. I am quite satisfied with this program. Furthermore, I want to thank every teacher in Office of International Affairs in Nagoya University and teachers in every departments. They helped me learn a lot medical knowledge. I hope I could have the opportunity to go back to Japan in the near future.
