Experience Stories in Nagoya Univ. School of Medicine

Dr. Li from China

Comments and/or Opinions about Clinical Clerkship in Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine

Mr. Li Bing

Dr. Wang from ChinaThis summer, Nagoya University, it is really great memory which I will always treasure. 37 days in Japan gave me life long memory. During those days, I was not only busy studying but also "felt Japan".

In the three departments, professors and teachers not only taught me lots of knowledge but also talked about Japanese culture and history, which let me learn both medicine and lots of different information of many fields.

The first two weeks in Ophthalmology, I took part in meeting of the department, discussed about cases with all the teachers, also saw many patients in the outpatient department, did operation exercise in the office as well and so on. All of these brought me a variety of things about the department. From the two weeks, I could see how developed medicine in Japan is.

Days in Department of Gastroenterology gave good memory too. What I have to mention is Professor Goto even treated me with traditional Japanese food in very famous restaurant. This really deepened my view about the Japanese culture. Endoscopy is my interest, so I spent most of time watching teachers doing endoscopy, EUS or ERCP. Great pleasure was that doctors taught me how to do endoscopy and even let me do it on the model.

Although it was only one week in department of pediatrics, I learnt large amount. From those days, I studied in different groups including hematology, neurology, neonatology and cardiology. Every busy studying cases, EEG and so on.

Dr. Wang from ChinaClinical Clerkship really brought me a lot, which even could not be listed. Maybe in my own hospital, I could also learn about the same knowledge, but the difference is, I could not learn it in Japanese style, which I think is much more important than the knowledge itself. The Clinical Clerkship gives a good chance to feel the atmosphere in Nagoya University, also feel the developed Japan.

By living in the Foreign Student House, I made many friends. We all have dreams and study heard. We cooked together and learnt how to live better in Japan. By travelling around Japan, I saw many historical monuments and beautiful sceneries. I still remember lovely deer in Nara, Nijo Castle in Kyoto, high buildings in Tokyo, beautiful Sea of Japan in Fukui…

Walked in Nagoya University, there are also many posters of student associations, which is very similar to my university. Books in the library are most written in English. When I was in Nagoya, I always compare those in Japan to those in China, different but similar culture. All the comparison made me thinking about how to do my work better and how can I be better from getting good from the two different life styles.

Three month has pasted since I returned Beijing. But days in Nagoya seems like yesterday. I hope one day in the future I could meet all the teachers and friends there. Best wishes to all my teachers and friends, welcome to China.
