Experience Report

Mr. Juan Mundisugih from Australia
period: 2014/07/14-08/08

Cardiology Clinical Clerkship at the Nagoya University Hospital has served as an invaluable experience for me. I was truly impressed by the doctors’ effort and willingness to welcome and educate me such that I felt I was part of the team. Through this clinical clerkship, I have encountered many interesting cases that I might not be able to find in Australia. These include Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension, Mid-Ventricular Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy with apical aneurysm, Brugada Syndrome type I, Fabry disease, Leriche Syndrome, etc. With such exposure to a wider range of cardiac cases, this clinical clerkship was certainly a golden opportunity for me to further enhance my strong interest in cardiology. In addition, guidance from cardiologists at the Nagoya University Hospital in this clerkship helped me build on my existing knowledge and filled my knowledge gaps. Furthermore, the opportunity to learn more about Japan was fantastic. The cardiologists took me to several events and different parts of town. They taught me a great deal about daily life in Japan, which I might not be able to experience as a tourist visiting Japan.

To conclude, I would like to thank the cardiology department and the staff at the Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine for providing me with the opportunity to do clinical clerkship in Japan. I would highly recommend this experience to any prospective student interested in visiting Japan.
