Doctoral Course

Last update: 2006/04/06

There are following four programs of doctoral course; Health and Community Medicine, Cell Information Medicine, Integrated Molecular Medicine, and Function Construction Medicine.

Graduate school entrance examinations under the new research system are held twice a year, in September and January. To take the admission examination, candidates are required to have been educated to more than 18 years, and for graduate students who have graduated at a faculty other than a school of medicine, research experience on a master's course is required. For students from abroad who graduated from a school of medicine of the five-year system in a foreign country, we translate this additional year of their research experience to represents an equivalent for the master's course. We also allow admission to students who hold full-time jobs from 2000. For entrance of those who have completed the master's course to the doctoral course, we encourage them to proceed to higher education with a formal admission examination.

The number of students accepted is 161 yearly for the doctoral course. The number of students from abroad enrollees was 87 in five years and represents 12% of the total enrollees. When we see year-to-year changes, the proportion of students from abroad was 14% to 16% of enrollees in the transition period, then it reduced since the introduction of the new system, and it maintains a rather low ratio of 9% to 10%. The proportion of students from abroad among applicants was 14 to 15% during the transition period, and 10 to 12% under the new system: 12% in the total five years. When we view the whole period, we do not think that there were any conditions disadvantageous to students from abroad.
